Tebas says LaLiga has blocked Barcelona from signing players this summer

Barcelona won’t be able to sign players this summer due to their poor financial position according to LaLiga president Javier Tebas,

The club spent over €150 million last summer on signings and brought in several players on free transfers. However, they were unable to offload many high earners, leaving them with a bloated wage bill.

Tebas stated that Barcelona has been involved in questionable behavior that has impacted La Liga, and as a result, the league is imposing strict economic controls.

The club must reduce its spending on wages and transfers from €650 million to €450 million, a budget of minus €200 million.

To comply with these regulations, Barcelona must sell players to raise funds to invest in new signings. Tebas has encouraged the club to do so, stating that for every amount they raise in sales, they can spend 40% of that.

Until Barcelona is able to reduce its wage bill and sell players to increase its budget, they won’t be able to register new players in the upcoming transfer window.

‘As of today, Barcelona doesn’t have any room in its budget to spend in the upcoming transfer window,’ Tebas told the Financial Times’ Business of Football summit in London.
‘Barcelona has been involved in questionable behaviour which has had an impact on La Liga and we are acting accordingly.’
‘We have ruled that they can no longer sign more players.
‘They sold off €700 million in TV rights and tried to find different ways to solve the situation but they won’t be able to do that next season.
‘We have strict economic controls. At the end of each window, we tell all the clubs in LaLiga what they can spend.
‘In the case of Barcelona, they have to drop from spending on wages and transfers from €650m to €450m – so it’s a budget of minus €200m.
‘They have to reduce their investment in players and we have encouraged them to sell players because for every amount they raise in sales they can spend 40 percent of that.
