Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard
Eden Hazard is seeking clarity on Chelsea’s ambitions before deciding whether he wants to remain at the club beyond this summer.
The 27-year-old has spent six seasons at Stamford Bridge, winning two Premier League titles, one Football League Cup and the Europa League while he was part of the side that secured the FA Cup in the season just finished.
However, the Blues failed to mount a series defence of their top-flight title and ended up in fifth spot, missing out on the Champions League.
Consequently, it was thought that a few top stars might jump ship in order to find club that will take part in Europe’s top club competition next term, and Hazard has been linked with Real Madrid in the past.
And the Belgium international has hinted that he might be on his way if the west Londoners do not have enough ambition to improve on last season.
“If I stay, it’s for the team to be better than it was than in the season we have just gone through,” he told L’Equipe. “I don’t want to stay for it to be worse. I have won everything in London other than the Champions League. If I’m in this position in my career, it’s thanks to Chelsea.
“It would be too easy to say I want to leave because I’ve done everything here. That’s why, above all else, I would like to know what will happen at the club next year. I am waiting to see if the coach stays or leaves.”
