Theo Walcott: Arsenal have found the leadership they were missing this season

ARSENAL have found the leadership they were missing this season – and their best is yet to come.

That is the view of Theo Walcott, who believes new signings like Shkodran Mustafi have helped add character and resilience in the dressing room.

The Gunners ended a run of three draws by beating Bournemouth 3-1 on Sunday and are now unbeaten in 19 games and just three points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Walcott said: “The players that have come in, there’s a lot more leaders who want to take responsibility for mistakes and everything. I think that’s helped us as a team.

“The last games we’ve played were big games, demanding a lot of the players. Ludogorets away, Tottenham, Manchester United, PSG. We’ve had some very tough games.

“In recent years we might not have got the results we wanted. We’ve managed to squeeze out results which maybe we didn’t deserve. That shows the character in the dressing-room this year.

“We know we can do better, but we beat Bournemouth and we scored three goals. We created a lot more than we have in previous weeks, which is a positive from our view.

“And we’re still undefeated since the opening day of the season so everyone is in good spirits.”

Walcott is now predicting a tight race for the title that could go right down to the wire.

He said: “We can only control ourselves. There’s no point wasting energy on other teams when we can’t control what they do. We know how difficult the Premier League is this season.

“Everyone is going to take points off each other. Manchester City went to Burnley and just managed to get a result. It just shows how tight this league is.

“It’s the best in the world and it’s going to be exciting for you guys. We can only concentrate on ourselves and see where that takes us.

“It’s going to go all the way with more teams in it. There’s four teams in it and there could be a lot more. It’s that mad.

“The lower teams will take points off the big clubs. It’s definitely exciting.”
