Timetable for Alaafin at 80 boxing competition released

Dates for the zonal qualifiers of the All-Nigeria Boxing Championship have been released.

The All-Nigeria Boxing Championship is being put together by sports administrator, Bob Olukoya Esq, through his I-YESS Sport Promotions, as part of activities to mark the 80th birthday of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

The monarch, a former boxer himself, will join the octogenarians’ club on October 15, 2018.

According to the timetable released by the organisers of the All-Nigeria Boxing Championship, which was also made available to Tribunesport, the zonal qualifier will take off in the south west on May 18, with Abeokuta as the centre.

One week later (May 25), the qualifiers will move to the south south with Port Harcourt playing host to the contestants in the zone.

On May 30, Owerri the Imo State capital will host the qualifier for the south east.

The zonal qualifiers will resume on August 17 with boxers converging on Gombe for the north east preliminaries. On August 24, the train will move to Ilorin, where contestants from the north central will slug it out for the zonal slots.

The zonal qualifiers will be rounded off in Kaduna on August 31 when qualifiers from the north west are expected to emerge for the finals.

The grand finale proper will take place in Oyo town, Oyo State, on October 14 — the eve of Oba Adeyemi’s 80th birthday.
