President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consoled Anthony Joshua after the boxer survived a road accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
In a statement on X, Tinubu acknowledged the loss of lives, noting that the incident goes beyond a celebrity accident, families are grieving, and a national figure like Joshua has also been affected.
His reference to the accident “casting a deep shadow on this season” stresses that the unfortunate event comes at a time meant for festivities.
The statement read, “I extend my deep sympathies to you following the tragic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which claimed two precious lives and caused you injuries.

Recall that Anthony Joshua, on Monday morning, survived a car accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
Two unidentified persons lost their lives in the crash. Joshua was travelling in a Lexus Jeep marked KRD 850 HN when the vehicle rammed into a stationary truck parked along the highway.
He was rescued from the scene with minor injuries.
There is no official confirmation yet from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the boxer and others involved in the accident had been taken to the hospital.
He said, “The Ogun State Police Command confirms a road accident today in front of Sinoma, before Danco, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Anthony Joshua and other injured persons have been rushed to the hospital.”
