Tokyo Olympics: Adekuoroye suffers defeat in women’s wrestling

Nigerian wrestling sensation, Odunayo Adekuoroye has suffered a shocking defeat and will not compete for a medal in the Women’s Freestyle 57 kg category.

She failed to advance to the semi-final in her category at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Odunayo who is one of the favorites for the gold medal lost her quarter final fight to Moldova’s Anastasia Nichita in the early hour of Tuesday morning.

Odunayo Adekuoroye was leading her 8-2, but she lost by a pinfall to Anastasia Nichita to exit the event.

She failed to become the second Nigerian to win a medal in Wrestling after Blessing Oborodudu who won silver medal in the women 68kg category.

Meanwhile, In the 86kg class, Ekerekeme Agiomor has been eliminated from the 86kg men category.

Agiormo was beaten 12-1 by favorite Deepak Punia of India on Tuesday morning.
