Toni Kroos blow for Real

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos faces an extended stint on the sidelines after the club confirmed he has fractured a bone in his right foot.

The German international has played an important role for Zinedine Zidane this season playing 90 minutes in each of the past 11 games across all competitions.

Kroos has filled the void left in the Los Blancos midfield following injuries to first-choice midfielders Casemiro and Luka Modric.

The injury occurred in Madrid’s 3-0 win over Leganés, but was only discovered when Kroos arrived for international duty with Germany.

A club statement read: “After tests carried out today in Germany on Toni Kroos under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a fracture-avulsion of the base of the fifth metatarsal in the right foot.”

“The injury was picked up in the last league game against Leganés. His recovery will continue to be monitored.”

Kroos’ injury has dealt a blow to the Champions League holders as they face Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona within the next three weeks.
