Tottenham could face Chelsea at Wembley with 20,000 empty seats

Tottenham are making their Premier League debut at Wembley Stadium on Monday and may be forced to reduce the capacity by 20,000 amid safety concerns.

Tottenham may not be allowed to put tickets on general sale for the upcoming match against Chelsea, which could leave 20,000 empty seats for the game.

Although the stadium has a capacity of 90,000, Spurs are being forbidden from putting tickets on general sale because the match has been deemed as high-risk.

Last season Spurs sold out all of their Champions League games at Wembley against Monaco, Bayer Leverkusen and CSKA Moscow. In their 1-0 defeat to Leverkusen in November, they set a new English club record with an attendance of 85,512 fans.

However, this strict rule has been imposed on Spurs after talks with Brent Council and the Metropolitcan Police regarding safety issues.

The remaining tickets can only be sold to supporters who have been registered on the club website before July 1st.

It is believed that this restriction has been put in place in order to stop away fans from obtaining tickets in the home end and the rule will apply for when Arsenal visit the stadium in February.
