Tottenham piles more pressure on Graham Potter with 2-0 win over Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur secured a 2-0 win over Chelsea in Sunday’s Premier League contest, increasing the pressure on Chelsea’s manager Graham Potter.

This is after a series of poor performances that have led to scrutiny over his position.

Despite Chelsea having a chance to take advantage of a reprieve, after Hakim Ziyech’s red card was overturned following a VAR review, Tottenham took control of the game.

Oliver Skipp powered home a goal immediately after the restart, scoring his first goal for the club. This was followed by Harry Kane’s 82nd-minute strike, which secured the victory for Spurs.

Thiago Silva was forced off after sustaining an injury while stopping Harry Kane inside the penalty area in the 19th minute, dealing a blow to Chelsea’s plans. Spurs had a near-miss shortly before the half-hour mark when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s effort from the edge of the area was deflected onto the base of the post.

Chelsea’s momentary relief in the first half was when Ziyech’s red card was downgraded to a caution after a pitch-side review by referee Stuart Attwell, following a strike on Emerson Royal’s face. Spurs started the second half on the front foot and secured the opener just 19 seconds after the restart with Skipp’s thunderous strike from 20 yards that crashed off the underside of the crossbar.

Kane then sealed the victory inside the closing 10 minutes with a simple back-post finish from a corner. This win moved Spurs four points clear of Newcastle United, though the Magpies have two games in hand. Meanwhile, Chelsea remains in 10th place, 14 points behind the Champions League qualification places.

Overall, Tottenham delivered an impressive performance, securing a crucial victory over their London rivals. The defeat added further pressure on Graham Potter, as Chelsea continues to struggle for form this season.
