Tottenham suffer injury blow ahead of City clash

Tottenham visit the Etihad for the second time in a week, but may be without a key midfielder when they face Manchester City.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says midfielder Moussa Sissoko will face a late fitness test before they take on Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.

Spurs are probably the last opponent City would want to face after Wednesday’s dramatic Champions League exit, but Pep Guardiola’s men have the chance to get quick revenge with a win in the league.

Three points would strengthen City’s quest for the title, and their task could be aided if battling midfielder Sissoko is absent for the fixture.

The Frenchman was substituted on Wednesday with a groin injury after a challenge with Kevin De Bruyne, and forced Tottenham to re-shuffle their formation.

With Harry Kane, Harry Winks, Erik Lamela and Eric Dier absent, Spurs brought on Fernando Llorente for Sissoko which saw Dele Alli drop deeper into midfield.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed on Thursday that Sissoko will be assessed before Saturday’s game to see if he is fit, along with Lamela who is suffering from a hamstring problem.

Pochettino also confirmed that Winks and Kane will definitely not feature, along with defender Serge Aurier. Dier and striker Vincent Janssen will return to training for Tottenham, however.

There is not understood to be any concerns over the fitness of Lucas Moura and Danny Rose, who were both replaced at the Etihad on Wednesday.
