Toure makes international U-turn

Yaya Toure wants to play for his country again as his Manchester City career fizzles out.

The midfielder announced his international retirement in September 2016 after 113 appearances for the Ivory Coast over more than a decade because he didn’t “feel able to set new goals as a player” with them.

But Toure, who turns 35 in May, has now decided that he has unfinished business.

According to agent Dimitry Seluk: “Yaya Toure has decided to return to Ivory Coast national team. He wants to win another trophy with the Elephants of Ivory Coast.”

Toure enjoyed a remarkable season at City last year under Pep Guardiola. Having been left out of the Champions League squad and then exiled from match day squads, he returned in November and played his way into a new contract.

Another disagreement with the coach followed this summer though, and the veteran has been limited to just five starts this season, with none of those coming in the Premier League.

With an Etihad exit on the cards for the end of the season, Toure is looking for another challenge with his national team.
