Super Eagles star, Kelechi Iheanacho is set for a medical ahead of his anticipated transfer to seven-time UEFA Europa League champions, Sevilla.
Iheancho’s contract with English Premier League club Leicester City expired on June 30, which makes him a free agent.
Despite his availability, the Nigerian forward has taken time to join a new club with significant interest from various clubs in the EPL, Turkish Super League, and Saudi Pro League.
Premier League sides Ipswich Town, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest were reportedly interested, as were Turkish clubs Besiktas and Trabzonspor.
The former Manchester City man has been in the sight of many European clubs looking to bolster their squads with his signing.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Iheanacho and Sevilla have agreed on a two-year deal.
An official announcement by the club is expected to follow after the medical and the signing of his contract.
Sevilla has continued to strengthen its bond with Nigerian football by first signing Chidera Ejuke, and now, with Iheanacho’s imminent transfer, the connection deepens.
The club also signed another agreement with the Nigeria Premier Football League on the training of coaches and young Nigerian players.
