The Edo State Correspondent of the Nigerian Tribune Newspapers, Idahosa Moses, and Kehinde Osagie, were on Thursday inaugurated as Secretary and Chairman, to lead the new Executive of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo State chapter.
Other members of the State SWAN executive are Adeleke Ayoola, (Asst. Secretary) and Igunma Nosakhare (Treasurer).
While bye elections are expected to be conducted for the positions of Vice Chairman, Financial Secretary, PRO, Welfare Officer and others by the new SWAN Executive.
The State chapter of SWAN has remained without substantive executive for over five years, following a leadership crisis that rocked the chapter.
The South/South Zonal President of SWAN, Mr. Ikemefuna Asika, who administered the oath of office on the new Exco members, urged members in the state to work as a team for the progress of SWAN.
“No one knows it all, please see them as your leaders and give them every support as you can. The most important thing is to take swan to the next level,” he added.
Earlier in his welcome speech, the Chairman of the caretaker committee that midwifed the new Exco, Ozioruva Aliu, thanked Sports Writers in the state for the support given to the committee.
Aliu who stated that the journey to midwife the new Exco was rough and tough, added that the desire to ensure that SWAN was revived in the state gave them the push.
In his goodwill message, the State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, noted that SWAN members in the state are now one.
Alenkhe who was represented by the Council Secretary Andy Egbon, described the inauguration as historic, adding, “May we never experience the kind of crises that led us to where we were”.
In his acceptance speech, the new Edo SWAN chairman, Kehinde Osagiede, thanked everyone for the success of the inauguration.
“My very small assignment now is to congratulate us and to thank you all. The confidence you repose in us, we will not fail or disappoint you. I assire you that we will operate an open door administration that other states will envy,” he said.
