The Group Sports Editor of the African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, publishers of the Tribune titles, Mr Wale Emosu, was on Tuesday, presented with the merit award at this year’s Sports Media Ambassadors Award held at the indoor sports hall, Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.
Emosu, 2014 CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Award winner, according to the organisers was considered worthy of the award given his invaluable contributions to the development of sports in the country through reportage.
An elated Emosu, in his remarks lauded the organisers for recognising him saying, “this award will spur me to do more in my professional calling”.
Also, among the recipients of the 2017 Sports Media Ambassadors alongside were international table tennis star and six-time Olympian, Funke Oshonaike; Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Dr Donatus Agu-Ejidike;
Founder of Splash FM, Chief Adebayo Akande (MFR); chairman, Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa and the chairman, Edo State Football Association, Mr Frank Ilaboya.
Other awardees included the General Manager, Supersport (West Africa), Mr Felix Awogu; Director of Sports, MFM, Mr Godwin Enakhena; Editor of the Sporting Sun, Mr Emmanuel Jemegah; Mastersports and ace television presenter, Mr Ejiro Omonode; Special Assistant, Media to the Sports Minister, Nneka Anibeze, Channels TV ace sports presenter, Austin Okon-Akpan, Director, News and Current Affairs, Splash FM, Mr Tunde Olawuwo and the Media Officer of Osun United FC, Mr Tunde Shamsudeen.
Meanwhile, chairman of the organising committee, Sports Media Ambassadors Award, Bayour Issah, said the award was instituted to appreciate and celebrate the people who have contributed to the growth of sports in the country in their various fields.
