William Troost-Ekong has spoken about his happiness after he made his debut for Belgian Jupiler Pro League club, KAA Gent in a league match at the weekend.
Troost-Kong played all 90 minutes as Gent won 1-0 against Royal Charleroi Sporting Club in front of 19,999 cheering supporters at GHELAMCO-Arena.
The Nigeria defender was first signed on by the Belgian club 18 months ago but had to bide his time before eventually making his debut.
“In the beginning I was a bit nervous, but that’s normal in a debut.
“I’ve waited a long time and was therefore very happy that I immediately was on from the kickoff.
“Keeping a clean sheet and getting a win, it is more beautiful,” he told the club’s official website, www.kaagent.be.
Troost-Ekong was one of three Nigerians who started Friday’s game against Charleroi (the others being Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu).
The latter was also making his debut and he provided the assist for Gent’s winner on the night.
Kalu’s performance attracted words of praise from Troost-Ekong.
“He was fantastic on Friday; one of our top performers. I am very happy for him.
“In training, he kicked me a few times so I know how tough he is,” he said with a smile.
