Tyson Fury sends ‘formal offer’ to fight Anthony Joshua

Tyson Fury, the reigning world heavyweight champion, has not yet sent a contract to Anthony Joshua for a potential fight in September.

In a statement made on Friday, Fury, 34, expressed his desire to face Joshua at Wembley and claimed that he had already dispatched a draft contract. However, promoter Eddie Hearn contradicted this claim, stating that Fury’s team had merely made contact and had not actually sent a contract.

Subsequently, Queensberry promoter George Warren clarified the situation by confirming that a “formal offer” had indeed been sent to Team Joshua via email.

Hearn further revealed that he was currently working on arranging a fight for Joshua in August, followed by a match against Deontay Wilder in December, and he was unwilling to alter these plans.’

Fury’s last fight took place in December at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he successfully defended his WBC title against Derek Chisora.

On Instagram, Fury expressed his eagerness for a highly anticipated showdown against Joshua, emphasizing that it is a fight that everyone, including himself, wants to witness.

It is worth noting that Fury had set a deadline in September of the previous year, which was not met, and he had proclaimed at the time that “It’s officially over for Joshua. He is now out in the cold with the wolfpack.”

Although a potential fight with Oleksandr Usyk, the current IBF, IBO, WBO, and WBA champion, was expected to take place in 2023, those plans ultimately fell through.

Fury boasts an impressive record of 33 wins and one draw from 34 bouts, while Joshua, who secured victory over American Jermaine Franklin on points in London in April, has accumulated 25 wins and three defeats throughout his 28-fight professional career after clinching Olympic gold as an amateur in 2012.
