U17 AFCON: Don’t lose hope, former NFA chairman charges Golden Eaglets

A former chairman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Colonel Abdulmumuni Aminu, has charged the national U17 team, the Golden Eaglets, which is campaigning for honors in the ongoing AFCON competition in Algeria not to lose hope but to remain focused as they engage their South Africa counterparts in today’s third and last game of the group.

Aminu, who held sway as Nigeria football chief between 1997 and 1999, in an interview with Tribune Sports in Abuja, said he has confidence in the ability of the boys to deliver at the big stage and make Nigerians happy. He called on the boys to be steadfast in their approach against the South Africans saying they should not be deterred by the loss against Morocco last Wednesday.

He nonetheless charged the Coach Nduka Ugbade and his boys to win the competition for the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as he steps into office as substantive president in the next few weeks.

“I have confidence in the team and they should not lose focus. The boys are good to go and they should not lose hope and should be steadfast as they prepare for South Africa.

“I believe in the ability of Ugbade to deliver the trophy to Nigeria. He is my boy and he is still my boy. Nigerians should pray for them to succeed. I want to urge the boys to win the competition for the President-elect to start on a good note sports-wise,” Aminu, a former military governor of Borno State told Tribune Sports.
