Atlético Madrid have been dealt an injury setback ahead of their UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg tie against Arsenal after Pablo Barrios was forced off during their 3-2 win over Athletic Club.
Barrios started the match as Diego Simeone rotated his squad following the recent defeat to Elche CF, but the midfielder was unable to complete the game.
He was substituted before the hour mark after showing signs of discomfort.
The club later confirmed the nature of the problem.
“Barrios has suffered a muscular injury in his left thigh, which occurred during the match against Athletic Bilbao this Saturday,” Atlético said in a statement.
Spanish media reports suggest the 22-year-old could be out for up to a month, casting doubt over his availability for both legs against Arsenal.
Simeone is also monitoring Ademola Lookman, who remains sidelined after sustaining a knock in the Copa del Rey final defeat to Real Sociedad.

Despite the injury concern, Atlético secured an important win, with Alexander Sørloth scoring twice on his return.
The forward now has 19 goals in 49 appearances this season.
Marcos Llorente, Koke and Antoine Griezmann also found the net before being withdrawn, while Julián Álvarez was rested.
The Champions League remains Atlético’s only chance of silverware this season following their Copa del Rey loss, with attention now turning to the meeting with Arsenal at the Metropolitano Stadium.
