UCL: Kane, Diaz give Bayern edge against Real Madrid

Harry Kane and Luis Diaz were on target as Bayern Munich secured a first-leg win over Real Madrid in their Champions League quarter-final at the Bernabeu.

Kane returned from injury to feature for Bayern after missing recent matches. He had a quiet first half but played a role in the opening goal scored by Luis Diaz four minutes before the break.

Diaz finished calmly after Bayern built pressure, giving the visitors the lead before half-time.

Kane extended Bayern’s advantage shortly after the restart with a low right-foot strike that beat goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

Real Madrid responded in the second half. Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a low cross that Kylian Mbappe converted in the 74th minute to reduce the deficit.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer made several saves to keep Bayern ahead as Real pushed for an equaliser.

Jude Bellingham came on in the second half and added energy to Real’s play, but the hosts could not find another goal.

Bayern held on to take a narrow lead into the second leg in Munich.
