UCL: Karl scores again as Bayern beat Sporting

Teenager Lennart Karl scored for the third Champions League game in a row as Bayern Munich came from behind to beat Sporting.

The 17-year-old became the youngest player to achieve the feat in the competition as he put the hosts in front with a thumping near-post finish midway through the second half.

Sporting had gone in front nine minutes after the break through a Joshua Kimmich own goal as the midfielder slid to try and cut out Ivan Fresneda’s cross at the end of a swift counter-attack.

Bayern levelled 10 minutes later when Serge Gnabry was left completely unmarked five yards out to volley home at the far post from Michael Olise’s.

Vincent Kompany’s side were ahead on 69 minutes as Karl controlled Konrad Laimer’s lofted pass into the box before finishing smartly with his right foot.

Goalkeeper Rui Silva might have done better as the ball burst through his hands, but he could do nothing to prevent Jonathan Tah adding a third for Bayern as the defender stabbed home after Gnabry had nodded the ball into his path from a deep free-kick.

Bayern, who move level on points with Arsenal at the top of the table, though having played a game more, dominated the first half with Karl having an early goal ruled for offside and Harry Kane curling a low shot against the post.

Sporting offered a threat on the break, but while that route led to the opening goal, Bayern were ultimately too strong as they took another step towards the knockout stages.
