UEFA ban Roma fans from next Champions League

UEFA have banned Roma supporters from attending their next Champions League match away from home following crowd disturbances at Anfield before the semi-final defeat in April.

Reds fan Sean Cox was seriously injured after being attacked close to the stadium before the match on April 24.

Two Roma fans were charged following the incident and appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on May 24.

UEFA have now taken action following those scenes, also fining the club 50,000 euros.

The Serie A side have also been given a further match ban with regards away supporters, suspended or two years.

The ruling, released on Tuesday, reads: The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has decided:

– to fine AS Roma € 50’000;

– to ban AS Roma from selling tickets to its supporters for the next two (2) UEFA competition matches which the club will play as the visiting team. The second match in which the Italian club will serve the ban from selling tickets is deferred under a probationary period of two (2) years.

Liverpool were fined 3,000 euros (£2,635) for the setting off of fireworks at the semi-final second leg against Roma on May 2.

It comes after the club were fined 20,000 euros (£17,500) by UEFA after their supporters threw missiles at the Manchester City team coach ahead of the Champions League quarter-final at Anfield on April 4.
