Ozil is entering the final year of his Arsenal contract and can leave on a free transfer next summer.
Negotiations for a new deal have been at a standstill for some time now, and the latest reports are suggesting that Ozil could complete a shock move to Old Trafford.
However, Mourinho does have reservations about signing the German World Cup winner, primarily because of his work rate, body language and wages.
Ozil wants more than £300,000-per-week, more than what Pogba earns at Old Trafford, to sign a new deal with the Gunners.
The duo worked with each other at Real Madrid and Mourinho is understood to be confident of convincing Ozil, who is not against the idea, to make the move to the north west.
To spice things up even more, the Portuguese tactician recently wrote the foreword for Ozil’s autobiography.
According to the ‘Daily Mail’, Arsenal may be tempted into selling their star midfielder in January, in order to avoid him leaving on a free next summer.
Inter Milan have recently upped their interest in Ozil, but Sporting director Piero Ausilio does not believe ‘players like him [Ozil] will be leaving in January.’
