Unveiling of Oshoala, move to rebrand Federation Cup —NFF

THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday unveiled Nigerian international, Asisat Oshoala as the face of 2016 Women’s Federation Cup.

Unveiling Oshoala in Lagos, in conjunction with the official media partner of the NFF, HS Media Group, Chairman/CEO of HS Group, Taye Ige, said there was the need to celebrate and support the competition which is a platform for the celebration of women football and a channel for the discovery of players for the female national teams.

He noted that as a result of the dwindling perception on female football and consequent failure to hold onto existing sponsorships or attract new ones, the competition had solely been financed by the NFF from its meagre resources.

Oshoala, who plays for Arsenal Ladies Football Club of England, via a recorded message, urged Nigerians and the upcoming players to remain focused and use the opportunity provided by the competition to launch their career.

The two-time African Player of the Year disclosed that she would continue to inspire young and promising players, adding that she would be physically present in the final of the Federation Cup holding later this month in Lagos.

First Vice-President of the NFF, Seyi Akinwunmi, submitted that the unveiling of Oshoala was part of plans by the organising committee of the NFF to rebrand the Federation Cup.

He informed that the NFF was working round the clock to get sponsors for the oldest football competition in the country.
