Emmanuel Adebayor in Togolese colour
TOgo captain Emmanuel Adebayor has discussed his love for his home country ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Gabon.
The accomplished striker, who has turned out for English giants Arsenal and Spanish giants Real Madrid, has played for Togo’s Sparrow Hawks for 17 years.
“People who know me will tell you that Emmanuel Adebayor is always laughing and joking,” Adebayor said on the Herald.
“I am full of happiness to be alive and every day I wake up I give all the glory to God.
“People in Togo love me for what I have done for the country and for what I am going to do,” the 32-year-old continued.
“Every time I am out of my house and the people see me, they show me love. So I can’t deny that I am happy to be who I am. Everyone knows I will always fight for my country and they believe in me.
“So I always enjoy myself when I wear the yellow shirt and defend the colours of Togo,” Adebayor, who won the 2008 CAF Player of the Year accolade, added.
He’s part of the Sparrow Hawks squad that is currently preparing for this year’s AFCON finals which will run from January 14 to February 5.
Togo are in Group C along with the Democratic Republic of Congo (D.R.C), Morocco as well as defending champions Ivory Coast.
