Harry Maguire, Manchester United captain
If Harry Maguire is worth £80m, then Virgil van Dijk is worth £300m – that’s the verdict of former Dutch international, Rafael Van der Vaart.
The ex-Leicester City defender has been an ever-present so far in Manchester United’s difficult start to the season and played the 90 minutes as the Red Devils held Premier League leaders Liverpool to a 1-1 on Sunday, but didn’t do enough to impress Van der Vaart.
He laid the boot into Maguire’s display, suggesting he could find amateur players to provide similar cover before questioning his value.

“He can do something, but if he is worth so much money, Virgil van Dijk is worth £300m,” said the 36-year-old Dutchman.
“If I am going to play with the amateurs on Sunday afternoon, I can easily find three who can do this.
“A bit silly to say, but I really think so.”
Van der Vaart, who played in the top flight for Tottenham having come through Ajax’s famed academy, also criticised Maguire’s display in England’s Nations League defeat to Holland.
“It’s funny because, during the Nations League, I was doing work for Dutch television,” he told Ziggo Sport.
