Liverpool emerged victorious on a rainy night at Anfield, against Wolves with a 2-0 win, courtesy of second-half goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
This was the fourth meeting between the two teams in the last two months, having played twice in the FA Cup third round and once in the Premier League at Molineux.
The game was a tightly contested affair for the majority of the match, with both teams unable to create many opportunities. However, Van Dijk’s header 17 minutes from time broke the deadlock, giving Liverpool the lead.
Salah then doubled the advantage four minutes later, securing three important points for Liverpool as they chase a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.

Harvey Elliott missed a golden opportunity to give Liverpool the lead in the 40th minute, heading wide from close range after a Darwin Nunez cut-back. Sa denied Elliott again just before half-time after Nunez chested the ball to him on the edge of the box.
Liverpool thought they had taken the lead in the 60th minute when Diogo Jota’s run allowed Nunez to score, but the VAR deemed that Jota had committed a foul before the goal.
In the 73rd minute, Van Dijk scored off his shoulder from a Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick. Sa saved Van Dijk’s attempt, but Jota was able to assist the Dutch defender’s header. Liverpool doubled their lead shortly after when Kostas Tsimikas and substitute Cody Gakpo combined for Salah’s easy tap-in.
This win propelled Liverpool to sixth place in the table, and they will hope to continue their winning ways to secure a top-four finish.
