Vera David triumphs at Glo Kaduna Golf Cup

It was sweet victory for Vera David on Sunday as she emerged the winner of the ladies trophy at the 2017 Independence Golf Cup tournament organised by the Kaduna Golf Club and sponsored by national telecommunications company, Globacom.

Vera David, (73 under par) was clearly the best in the Ladies Cat (full Handicap), beating Justina Gideon (78 under par) and Ivy Achir (95 under par) to runner up and second runner up positions respectively.

The overall winners’ trophy in Category (Cat) One (Handicap 0-9) went to Jamilu Ibrahim  who scored 68 under par to beat Philip Usani to the second place with 72 under par while  Ubale Shuaibu came third  with a 79 under par.

A total of 15 winners emerged during the annual Golf Cup tournament.

In Category 2 (Handicap 10-19) winner was Segun Aremu (68 points),  Runner up was  Emmanuel Owoicho (70 points) and Best gross  and 2nd  runner up was Gambo Peter (84 points).

Idris Marwa (68 points) won in Category  III ( Handicap 20-28) beating Abdullahi Garba with (73 points)  and Idris Araga with  98 points to 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

There was also a Veterans Category (FULL Handicap) which produced  the Pro Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Prof. S.U. Abdullahi (72 points) as winner. Shehu Yaro (75 points) and  Adamu Yusuf  (85 points) were 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The Kaduna Golf Club with 750 members is the first Golf Club in Northern Nigeria. It is an 18-hole course built in 1921, and it has hosted such tournaments  as Nigeria Open Golf Championship, KRPC Amateur Open Golf Championship and National Open Championship.

Globacom has in the past been backing various Golf tournaments around the country including the President Cup Golf Championship at the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja and the West African Glo Golf Tour which was played across five locations around the country with players from Ghana, Senegal, Cameroun and other African Countries.
