It is well known that Verratti has a number of suitors this summer, with notable interest from the likes of champions league finalists Juventus.
However, as it stands, it appears that FC Barcelona have stolen a march on their rials and sit in pole position to secure the Italian’s services after reports emerged that the Catalans already know how much the diminutive midfielder would cost them. The powers that be in Catalunya have made revamping their midfield a huge priority this summer with question marks hanging over André Gomes’ recent perfomances and the continued reliance on an ageing Andrés Iniesta.
As a result, it is understood that Veratti’s name tops Barca’s shopping list this summer. Further speculation was prompted after french daily ‘L’Equipe’ reported that Verratti recently met with senior PSG officials in order to ask to leave the club for pastures new.
Barca are in no rush to seal the deal however, and are prepared to play the long game if it means capturing what they consider to be one of the best central midfielders in world football at the moment.
The Italian publication ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’ also claims that the Catalans are prepared to offer Verratti and eye-watering €10 million per year, four times what PSG were prepared to offer, with speculation also mounting that the bid could amount to in excess of €100 million.
