Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, Marco Verratti’s season is over after the Italy international underwent an operation on his adductor tendons in the French capital on Thursday.
The Ligue 1 champions confirmed that Verratti, 25, who has struggled for fitness over the past few weeks, has finally had surgery to fix the persistent problem.
“Marco’s adductor tendons were operated on in Paris today by doctor Reboul [a member of the Aspetar facility’s groin pain centre],” a PSG statement read.
“The operation went perfectly well. The date was chosen to allow Marco to start the 2018-19 season in the best possible conditions.”
Verratti has provided three assists from 22 Ligue 1 appearances this campaign and the Azzurri star has no World Cup to worry about this summer because of Italian failure to qualify for the event in Russia.
It is not the first time that Verratti has been operated on so close to the end of term — it was also the case back in 2016, which ultimately ruled him out of a quarterfinal finish with Italy in France and Reboul also oversaw that similar procedure.
The former Pescara man should now be fit to return to training at the start of pre-season, along with PSG’s other non-international players.
Verratti recently expressed his interest in linking up with Manchester United and Les Bleus’ Paul Pogba in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.
