Carlo Ancelotti acknowledges that he would “understand” if Vinicius Junior chose to leave Real Madrid for Saudi Arabia, as the La Liga leaders prepare for a record €300 million transfer offer.
The Brazilian winger has been a target for Saudi Pro League clubs since last summer, and recent reports from AS suggest that Saudi officials are ready to make a world-record offer for Vinicius Jr.
They are said to be willing to pay €300 million (£251m/$313m) to Real Madrid for the star forward, along with offering him €200m (£167m/$208m) annually in wages.
As Real Madrid braces for the unprecedented transfer bid, manager Carlo Ancelotti remarked that he would “understand” if Vinicius decided to move to Saudi Arabia.
However, the Italian manager expressed his belief that the 24-year-old would likely choose to pursue further success with Real Madrid rather than opting for the financial rewards in the Middle East.
Talking about his experiences in the world of football, Ancelotti stated: “I understand everything in football. I understood Toni Kroos retiring from football [last summer]. Not many people understood it, but I did. I understand everything. They’re individual decisions. But to me, the player [Vinicius] looks happy and excited about staying here and winning trophies with Real Madrid. I think he’s thinking about choosing glory.”
Looking ahead, Real Madrid will face Brest in their final Champions League group match on Wednesday, away from home.
