A total of 17 matches will be played on Day 1 of the 2022 Kontagora Invitational Challenge, according to a member of the Local Orgainsing Committee, Elishama Elam.
This year’s edition of the Kontagora Invitational Challenge is scheduled to take place between 25th February to 3rd March at Kontagora, Nigeria state.
Elishama Elam revealed that 34 teams consisting of 18 men and 16 women’s teams will slug it out on Day 1 on eight different courts.
Elam said each team consists of four national team players and six relatively unknown players.
He said, “As the Kontagora Invitational Challenge begins today, (Friday), 24 teams will play on 8 different courts. Arrangements have been made for a hitch free competition; we want to see see the best from each teams.

“Each teams are expected to have a maximum of four senior national team players and accommodate 6 grassroots/upcoming players. The essence of the Kontagora Invitational Challenge is for proper mentorship of younger players and to consolidate the Nigeria Volleyball Federation programs.
The Head Coach, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Spikers commended the Sponsor, Major General Taritimiye Gagariga for focusing on the development of grassroots competitions.
He said, “The next big players in volleyball will emerge from the Kontagora Invitational Challenge. The young players will be given a platform to shine at this competition.”
A total of 37 teams consisting of 21 men and 16 women are taking part in the 2022 Kontagora Invitational Challenge.
