Volleyball: I’m proud of my players despite losing to Egypt — Nigerian coach, Ajayi

Samuel Ajayi, the head coach of Nigeria’s women’s senior volleyball team, on Saturday, commended his players for giving the Egyptian team a good fight despite losing 0-3 on match day four at the ongoing 2023 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in the group stage, pool A, Nigeria lost 0-3 (14-25, 17-25, 20-25) to Egypt at the Palais Polyvalent des Sports de Yaounde.

This loss gave Nigeria two wins and two losses in the championship group game, earning 6 points.

Ajayi said in the match against Egypt, Nigerian players performed very well despite the 0-3 loss.

“We lost to a more experienced and tactical team. I am proud of my girls for this excellent performance,” he said.

He said his team is determined to ensure that they win their last match against Algeria on Sunday.

Mali beat Burundi 3-0 (25-19, 25-20,25-20) in the other pool A match on Saturday.

Nigeria will next face Algeria on Sunday, while Egypt will hook up with Burundi the same day.

In pool B, Burkina Faso beat Lesotho 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-19) and Rwanda defeated Uganda 3-0 (25-20,25-17,25-21).

NAN reports that the 2023 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship which started on Wednesday ends on Aug. 29.

Twelve teams are participating in which Team Nigeria are in pool A with Cameroon (host), Burundi, Mali, Algeria and Egypt.
