As the Super Falcons of Nigeria begin their quest for a record-extending 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) and a former member of the Executive Board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has urged the 10-time African champions to remain united, focused and determined throughout the competition.
Omidiran, who is also a former member of the FIFA Women’s Football Committee and former Secretary of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Board of Trustees, praised the Falcons for consistently flying the country’s flag with distinction and inspiring millions of Nigerians through their resilience, discipline and excellence on the continental stage.
While urging the players to approach every match with confidence, discipline and a winning mentality, Omidiran noted that the Super Falcons’ achievements have transcended football, inspiring countless young Nigerian girls to dream big and pursue careers in sports while demonstrating that determination, hard work and patriotism can overcome every obstacle.
She also assured the players of the unwavering support and prayers of Nigerians throughout the tournament, expressing optimism that they would once again return home with the coveted continental trophy.
“As you begin your quest for another Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title, I extend my unwavering support and best wishes to our gallant Super Falcons. You have consistently inspired Nigerians with your resilience, excellence and patriotic spirit.
“The entire nation is behind you as you chase a record-extending 11th WAFCON crown. We believe in your ability to make Nigeria proud once again. Stay united, remain focused and continue to display the fighting spirit that has made the Super Falcons the pride of Africa. Good luck, Super Falcons. Bring the trophy home,” Omidiran, a former vice chairman, House of Representatives on Sports, stated.

The Coach Justin Madugu-led team begins their Group C campaign against Malawi at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday at 9 pm Nigerian time before facing Zambia and Egypt. This will be the first meeting between Nigeria and Malawi at WAFCON and will also be Nigeria’s 18th match against a tournament debutant.
Nigeria’s record in their previous 17 matches against debutants is 16 wins and one draw and has never lost to a WAFCON debutant. The only time Nigeria failed to defeat a tournament debutant was in a goalless draw against Tunisia in their second group game at the 2008 edition.
Nigeria have scored 67 goals and conceded only four in their previous matches against WAFCON debutants.
