Super Falcons and UDG Tenerife of Spain forward, Rinsola Babajide, has declared her desire to help Nigeria win her 10th WAFCON trophy in Morocco.
The nine-time African champions roared to a commanding 3-0 win over their Algerian counterparts in their opening group game with Babajide providing an assist for legendary Asisat Oshoala for the first goal and before logging in Nigeria’s second goal, her first in her maiden WAFCON appearance.
Rinsola, who said Nigeria will approach each game as it comes, stated that the players will continue to give their best and work as a team to deliver the trophy to football-loving Nigerians.
The former England youth international, however, expressed joy that she was able to score on her WAFCON debut saying it came as a big relief for her.
She said the target “is to win the trophy. It’s a new trophy. It’s game by game and to have a better performance each game. And doing a lot of things as much as possible as we can do.
“It (scoring her first WAFCON goal) is a big relief. I’ve had a few appearances. I was always missing that first goal. So, I’m so happy to get all the way finally. And also to contribute towards the win is a big privilege,” the former Liverpool, Watford and Brighton & Hove Albion player said.
Babajide received her first call-up in October 2023 and made her debut on October 25, 2023, starting in a 1–1 draw with Ethiopia during 2024 Olympic qualifying.
