WAFU Cup: Falcons beat Mali, face Ghana in semis

Nigeria have set up a semifinal clash with rivals Ghana in the ongoing WAFU B Women’s Nations Cup in Ivory Coast.

The Super Falcons on Tuesday defeated their Malian counterparts 2-0 in their last group match played at Stade Robert Champroux, Abidjan.

The Malians were reduced to ten late in the first half following one of their player’s rough tackle on captain Evelyn Nwabuoku.

The Malians, despite the disadvantage, were able to hold their own until the 67th minute of the match when Rafiat Sule broke the deadlock.

Nigeria’s second goal came in the added time through Uchenna Kanu. The goal brings Kanu’s haul to nine in the competition.

With this result, Nigeria finished first in Group B, amassing the maximum nine points from three matches. In all, the Super Falcons have scored 22 goals and conceded just one.

Nigeria’s semifinal opponents Ghana came second behind hosts Ivory Coast in Group A.
