Waldrum’s contract ended with World Cup — Gusau

There are indications that the contract of Super Falcons’ coach, Randy Waldrum, may have come to an end if what Ibrahim Musa Gusau, president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said some days ago is anything to go by.

Media reports have it that the American contract with the NFF has been terminated. Gusau had given the hints during a peace parley with the House of Representatives Committee on Sports that it is only the NFF Technical Committee that would determine the fate of Jose Peseiro and Randy Waldrum as Super Eagles’ and Super Falcons coaches respectively and whether they will continue as national team coaches.

“You are aware that we just set up the Technical Committee and very soon they are going to be inaugurated. They are going to come out with what we need to do about the Super Eagles coach,” Gusau said.

And just last week during a meeting with the House’s ad-hoc committee on the dispute between the Super Falcons and the NFF, Gusau reiterated that Waldrum’s contract with Nigeria ended after the just concluded Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The NFF boss said the Federation has paid Waldrum all his money.

“We paid about $80,000 balance of his (Waldrum) salary some days ago and immediately after the World Cup, the contract of NFF with the coach has ended. It is only when we sit down and negotiate another contract with him. So if by the time we end our contract or our contract expires with a coach, the next thing is to see how we can pay him all his money.”

However, all efforts by Tribune Sports to get the latest about Waldrum’s fate from the NFF president proved abortive as he did not pick up his calls or reply to the SMS and WhatsApp messages sent to him.
