Watford strikers Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo warned: Your starting place isn’t certain

TROY DEENEY and Odion Ighalo have been warned they are strikers under pressure – despite their scoring exploits for Watford last season.

The Hornets pair struck 28 of the club’s 40 league goals last time around but have so far failed to get off the mark this term.

And with £22m duo Stefano Okaka and Isaac Success having arrived at the club this summer, boss Walter Mazzarri says nobody can take their place for granted.

The Italian said: “It’s very important there is more competition. It will be the pitch that will decide on who is ready to start in my line-up.

“Lately Success has been injured so he has been delayed a little bit more than the other players but I also take into considering Okaka and Success but also Jerome Sinclair.

“The type of football I like, my mentality of total football means that everyone runs everyone wants to be part of the game.

“The players that come in as a substitute have to show that they can play better than the players that came out.”

Nigerian frontman Ighalo struck 30 goals in 2015 – but has managed has a meagre five so far year.

He is expected to keep his spot at West Ham today but Mazzarri said: “I cannot know what happened last season and why he scored more than in this season. For me the important thing is that the group wins, meaning that anyone can score.

“Deeney is the same as Ighalo. We scored one goal in each of our games so far.

“If we hadn’t conceded then we would have won all three of the matches so it means we have to work on not conceding goals. For me I don’t really care who scores.”
