Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi have lauded the Nigerian national team for their impressive performance against Gabon on Thursday.
After the impressive win and encounter, the Super Eagles were praised from all corners for their stunning 4-1 win over Gabon in the 2026 CAF World Cup playoffs.
Atiku took to X to express his pride, saying, “Proud of the @NGSuperEagles for giving Nigeria a fighting chance in the 2026 World Cup Africa playoff final,” Atiku wrote.
Obi also congratulated the team, stating, “Today, the Super Eagles have made us proud. I celebrate them, the coaching crew, and every Nigerian who believes in the possibility of a better, stronger, and more united Nigeria,” Obi said.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, also commended the team for their discipline and composure, saying, “Congratulations to our national team @NGSuperEagles on their stunning 4–1 comeback victory over Gabon to secure a place in the final playoff,” Tuggar added.
President Bola Tinubu also joined in the praise, describing the win as a “powerful display of Nigeria’s resilience and winning spirit”.
“This is the true Nigerian spirit of resilience against all odds. Do not stop until you secure a qualification. Super Eagles, Keep Soaring… The nation stands with you. Soar!,” Tinubu wrote.
However, the game played at the Moulay Hassan Stadium, Rabat, on Thursday saw Nigeria qualify for the final World Cup playoffs through goals from Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke and a brace from Victor Osimhen.
In addition, the winner of the fixture between Nigeria and DRC will qualify for a six-nation FIFA intercontinental tournament in March.
