We have no plan to impeach Pinnick —NFF board members

Executive members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have described the speculations about its plan to impeach its president, Amaju Pinnick, as joke of the century.

A top member of the board who pleaded anonymity in a chat with Sportingtribune via WhatsApp Tuesday night said there was nothing like that on the table, saying it was imagination of some people.

It was recently speculated that some members of the board were meeting and planning to impeach Pinnick for his role in the Anambra FA election by not involving them(board members) in the decision to cancel the election.

While chatting with Sportingtribune, the board member from the North described the move as a joke adding that the decision taken on Anambra was jointly taken by the board.

“We were surely briefed by the president on the situation in Anambra on our WhatsApp forum and decision jointly taken after due deliberations. So, I see no reason for impeachment,” he said.

Corroborating this, another board member from the Eastern part of the country echoed his colleague when he told Sportingtribunethat, “What happened in Anambra is not an impeachment offence and four members as claimed cannot take a decision to impeach the president because we all took the decision together.

“As a matter of fact, I am not even aware of such move by any member because no one has called to inform me of such move, so I see this as a ploy to cause distraction for the federation.”

He added, “Before any form of impeachment, the president must have committed serious offence But in this case, he has not done anything to the contrary and there is no impeachment move against him”.

Speaking further, the board member disclosed that there is nothing like third term in the statutes of the federation and the president is not even thinking alone that line talkless of making Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, chairman, zamfara FA, his running mate.

When contacted on Wednesday via WhatsApp, president, Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, described the speculation as fairy tale.

He said, he did not take a sole decision on the Anambra election or any other issues but had been carrying his board members along in taking any decision as far as his administration is concerned.
