The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has said that the corps will continue to provide athletes that will represent Nigeria in international competitions and win laurels for the country.
Dr Audi stated this over the weekend during the walking and jogging exercise to keep members of the corps fit and as part of activities marking his one year in office.
According to the NSCDC boss, the corps will continue to churn out world-class athletes that will give Nigeria good representation and win medals in regional, continental and global sporting events. The NSCDC has basketball, volleyball and athletic teams doing well in national and international competitions.
“Our athletes have won medals in national and global competitions. This is a clear indication that Civil Defence will not relent in giving its best in national and international sports meets and will continue to provide a pool of athletes that will represent Nigeria very well in regional, continental and global sports championships.

“However, I want to say that we are not in competition with any sister organisations. What we are doing is based on our philosophy and if we excel and others see that we are doing well they can copy us. We are doing very well in athletics, volleyball and basketball and that is a clear statement of what our philosophy concerning sports is all about. I want to say very soon we will come out with our football club but that is not to say that other sports should not be encouraged.”
“There is no denying the fact that football is the most popular sport however sports is not just about football and we should all note that. There are other sports that bring more laurels than football but just like I stated earlier, football is at the forefront globally. That said, our football team will soon be launched,” the Commandant General said.

He said the exercise (jogging and walking) is meant to improve the physical fitness, agility and smartness of the members of the corps and which according to him is central and germane to the corporate existence of the NSCDC.
