Former north London favourite Bacary Sagnary has emphatically thrown his support behind Arsene Wenger, saying his former boss ‘made Arsenal’.
Sagna’s current outfit, Manchester City, have the chance to pile on the misery over the next few weeks. Three weeks after the top-four showdown at the Emirates they meet again in a Wembley FA Cup semi-final on April 23.
The 34-year-old Manchester City full-back spent seven years working under Wenger and faces off against him today.
Sagna can see how the man who brought him to the Premier League is ‘hurting’ but says the Arsenal players are with their manager.
On a personal level Sagna cannot imagine the Gunners without Wenger.
“I see him fighting to carry on because the club is his life, he loves the club. I’ve been there with him at Arsenal and I see the way he is hurting at the minute,” Sagna told the Sun.
“But in my opinion he is Arsenal, he has made Arsenal.
“Look at what he has achieved. They have to remember — as I will remember every day of my life — what he has done for the club and for me.
“Of course I would like him to stay. I can’t imagine Arsenal without him.’
Sagna added: “He’s respected in football for what he has done.
“The players are still by his side and everyone stands for him. He’s very human with everyone, very understanding and it shows with what he wants to bring to football.”
