Wenger reveals why he rejected Real move

Arsene Wenger insists he snubbed Real Madrid on more than one occasion during his time as Arsenal boss.

The Frenchman, who left the Emirates last summer, with Unai Emery his successor, was coveted at the Bernabeu for many years.

But Wenger, despite admitting his admiration for the Spanish giants, turned them down to continue the project with the Gunners.

“I turned Madrid down more than once but now I must say it’s over for me,” Wenger said on beIN SPORTS.

“I feel if you ask any mananger in the world ‘Are you interested?’ and everybody would say ‘Yes’. It’s the biggest club in the world.”

Wenger has also revealed why he knocked back Los Blancos, emphasising his values and the trust he had with Arsenal, following his promise to stay in their period of transition.

“We live always to our values,” Wenger added. “It was in the middle of a processs.

“We rebuilt the stadium, we had to pay it back, I guaranteed I would stay and I’m quite happy with my decision.”

Santi Solari is the current boss at the Bernabeu, replacing Julen Lopetegui mid-season, and the Argentine has a chance of remaining at the club beyond the summer after sparking a revival.

Real are back in second in La Liga and have a 2-1 advantage over Ajax heading back to the Bernabeu for the second leg of the last 16 Champions League clash.
