Wenger was heavily linked with an exit last season as his contract drew to an end, but eventually committed to a two-year extension to extend his incredible 21-year spell in charge of the club.
However, speaking at Thursday’s AGM, the Frenchman said that his position will come under review at the end of the season, despite being less than six months into that new deal.
“I want to see what the board thinks of my performance,” Wenger said.
“After that we decide where we go from there. My desire has always been to respect my contracts, but that is what I meant.”
Arsenal endured a dismal campaign last time out, finishing fifth to miss out on the Champions League for the first time under Wnger and only consoling themselves with an FA Cup crown.
Despite that setback though, Wenger insists he is as hungry for success as ever.
“My hunger, my commitment is bigger than ever,” he said. “I question myself a lot, don’t worry, I will sit down every year to see where I go.
“The present for me is about style of play, winning trophies, winning every game. Don’t think I don’t know. It’s essential.
“No matter what happens one day I will always love this club forever and be an eternal fan.”
Wenger has aquired a reputation for fulfilling his commitments, having never broken a contract in his career, but he is also a man of principles and when the time comes that he feels he can no longer do what is best for the club that he so clearly loves, he will no doubt step aside.
Will that time be next summer?
