Fans have reacted to Israel Adesanya’s latest defeat, questioning his form after he suffered a fourth consecutive loss at UFC Fight Night in Seattle.
Joe Pyfer defeated Adesanya in the main event, stopping him via technical knockout at 4:18 of the second round after a series of strikes and ground punches forced the referee’s intervention.
It was Pyfer’s first fight since committing himself to Christianity earlier this year. He spoke about his recent struggles after the bout.
“I almost took my own life a couple of weeks ago, but I found God,” Pyfer said.
“I don’t like crying, so I’m going to keep it together. God restored me, that’s the only reason I’m here.”
Adesanya started the fight well, defending early takedown attempts and applying pressure with strikes.
He appeared to trouble Pyfer in the second round before the momentum shifted.
Pyfer responded with a counter left hook, followed by a body shot and a right hand that left Adesanya hurt.
He then secured a takedown and moved to his opponent’s back, where he delivered strikes that ended the contest.
The defeat marked Adesanya’s fourth consecutive loss, with the former champion now stopped in his last three fights.
@Buchi_Laba said “Isreal Adesanya messed up when he went to Brawl with Joe!! That has never been your style Isreal. You were piercing Pyfer up but you decided to brawl and he took you down knowing your ground game is poor. Same thing has happened in your last 3fights! This was supposed to be the comeback boy! #UFCseatle“
@DareAdebay43685 “Israel Adesanya, popularly known as The Last Stylebender, just got the beating of his life tonight before getting knocked out by Joe Pyfer in UFC Seattle.
“At this point, Izzy should seriously consider hanging up the gloves. Four straight losses and the magic just isn’t there anymore. What a tough night for a legend.”
@Blizzflix “What happened to Israel Adesanya? Once untouchable, now it feels like he’s getting KO’d by everyone… A shocking downgrade for a fighter who seemed unstoppable #UFCSeattle“
@big_business_“Israel Adesanya did not take his gloves off in the octagon. He said, “I’m not f*cking leaving! You’ll never stop me. I might get beaten, but I will always remain undefeated.” No win in three years. Lost 5/6 last fights. Four fight losing streak.”
@ZachSchumaker “Israel Adesanya just suffered a devastating loss, and the very first thing he does is leave the cage to congratulate Demetrious Johnson on his Hall of Fame induction. That is the exact definition of pure class. #UFCSeattle.”
@Skip2MyJays “Sad to see but Israel Adesanya doesn’t have it anymore, he was doing well early, out landing joe pyfer but got into some wild exchanges and his chin couldn’t handle the power that led to the eventual ending gnp sequence #ufcseattle.”
@psinghh10 “The fall off of Izzy still makes no sense. From beating Alex Periera to losing to an undeserving Strickland, getting subbed by DDP, knocked out by Imavov and now knocked out again by Pyfer Fuck bro 🙁 #UFCSeattle.”
@GideonToba “A lot of us don’t know how difficult combat sports are, Izzy is 36yrs and hasn’t fought in over a year. I give Israel Adesanya all the kudos, congrats to Joe Pyfer #UFCSeattle.”
@devoyceofgod, “How can he beat Isreal Adesanya this way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No fear of God at all..I’m having body pains already.”
@OgaSammyWejinya “Izzy @stylebender says he won’t quit… I think someone needs to have a word with this Man… I love you to bits Izzy…was rooting for you in this fight but Mehn, it’s time for you to quit bro….you’ll never be champion again Na shame in that Time catches up with all of us.”
