Morgan Rogers has explained why he chose Chelsea after completing a British-record £117 million move from Aston Villa, saying he was convinced by the club’s ambition and long-term project under new head coach Xabi Alonso.
The 23-year-old England international signed a contract until 2033 after Chelsea agreed a deal that surpassed the £116 million Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson earlier this summer.
Rogers had also attracted strong interest from Arsenal during the transfer window, but Chelsea moved quickly to secure the forward’s signature.
Speaking after the move was confirmed, Rogers said he was eager to become part of the club’s future.
“I’m so excited. For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I’ve always admired since I was a kid.

“I’m really excited about the project with the new manager, the players we’ve got and where the club is heading. That’s why I’m here, and I can’t wait to get started,” he said.
Chelsea announced the signing with a promotional video featuring an old-style radio broadcast that said, “Welcome back to Cobham FM, London is finally starting to cool down.”
The clip referenced Rogers’ trademark “ice cold” celebration, which he shares with England teammate and Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer.
In another club video, Rogers highlighted the factors that influenced his decision.
“I’m joining the biggest club in London,” he said.
“The way the club wants to go and how it wants to move forward, I want to be a part of. It was just perfect for me.
“I am a free-spirit, free-flowing footballer.
“I like to take risks, make things happen, change games, whatever that might take. I can’t wait to get going.”
Rogers arrives at Stamford Bridge after an impressive 2025/26 campaign with Aston Villa.
He scored 10 Premier League goals and provided six assists, while also contributing three goals and five assists as Villa won the UEFA Europa League.
