Following the events of the kiss at the 2023 Women’s World Cup final, the Spanish football association boss has faced the court of public opinion, resigned his position as head of the football federation (RFEF), and has now appeared in a closed court session denying two criminal charges.
Recall that FIFA had earlier suspended the Spainish FA boss after allegedly kissing the female footballer, Jenni Hermoso, following his country’s victory at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Rubiales had maintained that it was mutual and consensual when he held Jenni Hermoso’s head in his hands and kissed her on the lips.
According to BBC, the prosecution had asked the judge to place a 500 meters bar on the Rubiales to restrain him from approaching the Spanish woman footballer, Hermoso.
However, Hermoso, on her part, said she did not consent to the kiss. Prosecutors submitted her initial complaint of sexual assault and added one of coercion.
After listening to arguments from both parties, the judge placed a 200 meters restraining order on Rubiales.
A further request that Rubiales should appear before the judge every 15 days was rejected.
