Super Eagles’ head coach, Finidi George, has said Nigerians should expect victory in the two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic which will hold next month in Uyo and Abidjan respectively.
Finidi, who stated this while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Friday, said the technical crew is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the Eagles fly over the Bafana Bafana.
“We will do everything that we can and it’s not just me but the whole team will get the victory we need. You can’t just judge us by the friendly games we have played. We will be playing two important games against South Africa and Benin Republic. We know what is at stake and friendly games are always different from competitive games and we just hope the players will come out with the mentality to win the games.
“I am quite optimistic that we will work towards that. By the time we invite the players we will know who we are inviting and we will see those that can give us victory. I just met with the NFF and we talked about everything and touched everything, from players to what the targets are and you know this is Nigeria. It is all about winning and doing our best. We came second in the last AFCON games and the target now is to do better than Nations Cup.”
The 1994 AFCON winner however said Nigeria is keeping tab on South Africa style of play through scouts and social media as well as through research.
“Through research, scouts we have seen how they (South Africa) play, their strengths and weaknesses. For us, that is not a problem. If they want to see Nigeria and get all information about Nigeria they will also get it in a spate of seconds. We’ll do same from AFCON to the friendly games that they have played. We’ll see them, we’ll watch them and see how it goes,” the former Ajax Amsterdam of Holland dashing winger told Sporting Tribune.
