Zambia ’ll rub Spain magic on Nigeria —Mweene

Zambia captain and goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene has said a proposed training camp of Spain ahead of a must-win 2018 World Cup Group B qualifier in Nigeria will show Chipolopolo aim to win.

Nigeria will host Chipolopolo in a penultimate Group B qualifier on October 7 in Uyo.

The Super Eagles need to win that match to qualify for the World Cup, while Zambia need the three points to boost their chances of reaching Russia 2018.

Mweene said in an interview from his base in Pretoria, South Africa, that he believes that the camp will have the same impact it had on the Zambia U20s success earlier this year for their 2017 U20 AFCON and FIFA U20 World Cup campaigns.

“My take is that it is a very good idea. They did it with the Under-20 and so for us to camp that side, especially the national team, we will be away from the pressures of the media and other things for us to focus,” Mweene said.

“It is not that we don’t want to talk to the media, but I believe the vibe in the team will be different because we are going to Nigeria to play a very critical game.”

“It will also help us further bond more as a team away from home especially with the new guys and the Under-20 players.”

He added: “We need this camp because we want to enter the pitch in Nigeria with unity and we need to show that we mean business.”

Chipolopolo are second in Group B on seven points, three points behind leaders Nigeria with two matches left to play.

Cameroon and Algeria are third and fourth on three and a point, respectively, and are out of contention for next year’s World Cup.
