Zinedine Zidane says he does not disagree with the suggestion that Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest player ever to have played for Real Madrid.
Ronaldo, 31, joined Madrid from Manchester United in 2009 and has gone on to help the club to two Champions League triumphs and one La Liga title in that time, as well as the Club World Cup, two Copa del Reys, the UEFA Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup.
The Portugal captain, who has scored 376 goals in 366 games in total for Madrid, won a fourth Ballon d’Or earlier this week, and Zidane suggested he may now rank above himself and the likes of Alfredo Di Stefano among the club’s legends.
“Any other player could come to Madrid and he’s never going to achieve what Cristiano has achieved,” Zidane told reporters.
“It’s no exaggeration to say that he’s the best player in the history of Real Madrid.
“And the four Ballon d’Ors? Bravo. I think he can win it again.”
Ronaldo is currently with Madrid in Japan where they are attempting to win the Club World Cup and face a semifinal on Thursday against Mexican side Club America.
