Zlatan Ibrahimovic has denied that he kicked Seamus Coleman in the head on purpose, saying that — if he wanted to do that — he would make an opponent “fall asleep.”
The Manchester United striker was involved in a tangle with the Everton defender early in the second half of the their 1-1 league draw at Goodison Park on Sunday. Referee Michael Oliver appeared to miss the incident, meaning that there could be a threat of retrospective action from the FA.
Ibrahimovic told MUTV: “It was a physical game. They played hard.
“I heard one of the commentators say I kicked someone in the head on purpose, but it was a 50-50 duel and he pulled me down.
“Trust me, if I want to kick someone in the head, I know how to kick someone in the head and make him fall asleep. That is the only thing I have to say.”
Ibrahimovic had shown his more appealing qualities in the first half when he produced an impressive lob to give United a 1-0 lead at the break. Marouane Fellaini conceded a late penalty though, scored by Leighton Baines, condemning United to their sixth Premier League draw of the season.
Discussing his goal, Ibrahimovic said: “I got a fantastic ball from [Anthony] Martial, and I saw the goalkeeper coming out, so I tried to time it right.
“I scored today but it only gave us one point. I would prefer to win and not to score, that is my way of thinking.”
